This week in French 2 has been exciting and eye-opening for the students! They have taken a field trip to Crêpes & Croissants in Columbia, SC and met a University of South Carolina international student from France. During the field trip, students spoke with Crêpes & Croissants owner Laurent Prescelti who is from Marseille, France. Mr. Prescelti showed the students how crêpes are made in France. He showed students the tools he uses, what they do, and why they are important. Afterwards, students ordered from the menu in order to taste authentic French cuisine. Students ordered crêpes, croissant sandwiches, macarons and more! This experience will be an interesting way for students to connect what they now know about French cuisine to what they will learn later this semester in Unit 3 when we learn about food and health. During the guest speaker event, USC international student Corentin Grenon presented to students a lot of interesting information about France and his life in Paris. Throughout the presentation, students interacted with Mr. Grenon to share and discuss the topics he was presenting. Students learned about French geography, history, culture, food, sports, music, daily life, and more! After the presentation, students asked Mr. Grenon a lot of questions. They also heard from USC Thinking Globally program manager Julie Medlin about how they can travel abroad when they go to college and language scholarships available for studying abroad. Meeting two people from France and experiencing French dining was an engaging opportunity for students to expand their global perspectives.
